For the past nine years Steve Wilkison has owned and operated Digital Vision Media, an awarding winning custom website, interactive and multimedia design and development company. Known for providing clients with productive, distinctive, well-crafted, aesthetically appealing materials, DVM has earned a reputation throughout the industry for producing outstanding websites, eCards, blogs, Flash enhancements, digital press kits, HTML emails and much more. Wilkison is both a highly regarded designer as well as a skilled coder, something that is increasingly rare in the web community.
A veteran of the music industry, Wilkison has been working in the graphic design field for almost twenty years. He has been involved with over forty album releases as art director and/or graphic designer, including packages for such artists as Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, Wayne Hancock and Kate Campbell. He first began developing websites in 1994, long before they became the integral part of business they have evolved into. One of his earliest sites was chosen as one of the Best Texas Websites by the influential Texas Monthly magazine. His detail oriented approach to high quality and passion for his work has helped him build a large and loyal client base which includes companies such as The Country Music Hall Of Fame, Dualtone Music Group, Sugar Hill Records and Uniguest and artists such as June Carter Cash, Keith Urban, Dolly Parton, Janis Ian, Robert Earl Keen, Willie Nelson, Nickel Creek and more.
Wilkison was also a prominent and respected figure in the indie record label community for many years. As the former President of Eminent Records in Nashville, Vice-President/General Manager of Koch Records in New York, President of Dejadisc in Austin, TX and Founding Member of the Americana Music Association, Wilkison brings a wealth of music business knowledge and experience to his position.
Wilkison began teaching as an Adjunct Instructor at Watkins College Of Art, Design & Film in the spring of 2008. Over the past three years he has been responsible for developing the curriculum and teaching three Web Development classes: Web Development I, which focuses on the basics of website design, coding and authoring, covering (X)HTML and CSS; Web Development II, which focuses on more advanced techniques including Flash and PHP; and Web Development III, which is a “project” oriented class which uses a variety of website and Flash projects to provide the students with real-world, hands on web design and interactive development.
Wilkison is also a contributing author at the popular Community MX web site which features thousands of tutorials and articles related to the Adobe suite of web tools (Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop, etc.). His recent tutorial, “Using Sound With ActionScript 3,” provides a clear and concise lesson on incorporating sound into Flash applications using ActionScript, the Flash coding language.
From 1984 to 1994 Wilkison owned and operated a licensed Montessori School in San Marcos, Texas where he worked with children from 2 1/2 years to 10 years of age.
When he’s not figuring out some new web oriented technique on his Mac, Wilkison can often be found cycling throughout middle Tennessee (or France). An avid music lover and collector, he also publishes a blog on CDs, LPs and music in general.
